Lightning is a white llama who came from Puck’s Farm, a petting zoo in the Schomberg area. Many petting zoos with farmed animals obtain young animals each spring and dispose of them in late fall each year by selling them or returning them to farms, where they are sent for slaughter.
Lightning was one of several animals purchased from Puck’s Farm by one of Wishing Well’s neighbours in November 2013 at the close of “petting zoo season” and he offered to give him to the Sanctuary. Of course we said yes and he brought him to the Sanctuary later the same day, on November 16, 2013. Government statistics show that the number of llamas slaughtered in Ontario each year is growing and we’re grateful that Lightning will not meet such a dreadful fate.
